Silvertonguedevil interview may 13 2018

  1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We are a metal band (no sub genres, please) from Dallas, Texas that formed in spring of 2005. Inspired by the underground metal scene, as well as old school metal and punk, we write and perform songs with a unique sound and fury we call simply Devil music. Lyrics are an important part of the band, and we draw inspiration from the classical world, de Sade, Lovecraft, Poe, Baudelaire, Barker, Ketchum, and historical events from around the world. DIY (Devil It Yourself) in attitude, we have released three full length albums on our own All Devils Music label, toured extensively throughout the South and Midwest, been played on terrestrial radio all over the world, been on several renowned podcasts, create our own music videos, and book and promote shows for other touring bands as well. We also play and record with our related side project ACOUSTIC DEVIL, bringing manic energy to a new genre we call Acoustic Metal. New songs, new videos, and new shows are in the works, and we’re always on the lookout for new allies to help us dominate the world.
Silvertonguedevil is:

  1. What’s the origin of the band name?
A silver tongued devil is a person who has a clever way with words to such an extent that they are capable of great deception. It’s an older term, dating back hundreds of years, and ties in nicely with our lyrics. We spell the name as all one word, so it reads SILVERTONGUEDEVIL, while our fans often call us STD. We play around with that meaning by also having a song called Sexually Transmitted Devil.
  1. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are the any local bands you could recommend?
We call all of DFW home, as we regularly play across Denton, Dallas, and Fort Worth. We’re lucky to have a rich scene with a varied roster of great metal bands. There’s everything from old school heavy metal (DIESELBEAST), thrash (EXPLODER, CHEMICAUST, ELECTRIC VENGEANCE, MALDEVERA), death (INTERMENT, BLACK CHAMBER, DEMONSEED, KOMBAT, EMPTY SHELL), progressive metal (WROUGHT OF OBSIDIAN, MONOGAMIZER, DEI AEMETH), doom (CROPDUST), and black metal (WYRM CHASM, JUDAS GOAT). Plus there’s great punk and hardcore bands (HOODRAT, RAPID FACE), too.
  1. How would you describe your style?
Metal. We have lots of influences and try to craft our own sound that doesn’t fit neatly into any individual scene, so we’ll play shows with punk bands, death metal bands, trash bands; basically anything that’s loud and energetic.
  1. What have you release so far, and what can someone expect from your works?
We’ve self-released three full length albums so far (SECRET DEMONS, PORNOGRAPHIC SCRIPTURE, and ORTHODOX HERESY), and are currently at work on album number four. We try to sound like no other metal band, and bring a unique perspective to all that we do. We cover the sacred and the profane and all points in between, and if you’re adventurous you’ll find something to like.
  1. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are currently writing songs for both SILVERTONGUEDEVIL and ACOUSTIC DEVIL for a soon to be recorded album.
  1. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Always. In the 13 years the band has been around we’ve never gone more than a month without playing live. The stage is where it’s at for us, and we regularly play across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, and occasionally push out further to Detroit, Denver, and New Orleans. We are currently working on networking shows on both coasts.
  1. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
There’s no end in sight. We’re going to finish the new album, shop it to labels, work on tours throughout America, and do our best to get over to Europe and Latin America.
  1. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can find our music on pretty much every music site there is. We’re streaming on Spotify, Pandora, Last FM, and Apple Music. You can buy our singles or full albums on iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp, and Soundcloud. And you can see our videos on Youtube and Reverbnation. For music services like Spotify look for Silvertonguedevil as all one word. For social media sites look for us as Silvertonguedevil666.
  1. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That you’re listening to a great fucking metal band. That’s all we really want, is for people to enjoy the music and the show. We work hard to be memorable.
